The Ayahuasca diet, is it really necessary?

When searching online for the Ayahuasca diet it get's very confusing, there seem to be a lot of different opinions about what you can and can't eat.

I have found out that there is a medical diet, a restriction on pharmaceutical substances, drugs and foods that can lead to serious health issues and an advisable diet for foods.

The medical guidelines are very important to stick to for safety matters.

The Dietary guidelines (no processed foods, dairy, red meat etc.) are very important to follow for a maximum healing experience.

You can find a list of substances that interact with Ayahuasca here.

"One of the most important aspects of working with ayahuasca is adhering to a honored tradition of following a special diet in order to prepare not just the body, but also the mind and soul to incorporate the healing energy of ayahuasca. This diet also shows the spirit of ayahuasca your intention, and is a test of discipline and commitment"

Some people say the ayahuasca diet doesn't exist. Which is true in some sense.

When you are in the jungle there are no processed foods or pharmaceuticals so there is no diet to stick to as you are eating fresh foods from the land, but here in the west we are so polluted by all the processed foods and drinks, by what we watch on television and the people we surround ourselves with. That we indeed do need a diet to clean ourselves out.

Because the first thing Ayahuasca will do is clean you out.

So the cleaner you are the deeper she can go to do the work.

You can find the dietary guidelines here.

Here are some other tips to help you get the best experience.

- Set an intention for the ceremony

- Start a journal

- Meditate

- Connect to nature and go out for walks

- Get creative (sing, dance, write, paint etc.)

- Stick to the pre/post dietary guidelines provided

- Take time after the retreat to integrate

If you have any questions about the diet, ceremonies or integration the Mother's House team is always there to answer any questions.
